Curating the best of Jewish online content for print, bringing the conversation offline!
READ THE Editor’s Note
If the online social media world were to be a Jewish city, I'd describe each platform as a different point of gathering.
Jewish Creators Print is here to bring these Jewish communities together, connecting those that exist online, between platforms, and offline - by curating the most relevant, inspirational, thought-provoking ideas from different voices and individuals on these platforms, putting them into a beautiful print that you all can read on a Shabbos afternoon. Offline, in person, human to human.
Now, indulge the analogy:
For starters, LinkedIn would be the Shul, Beit Knesset, of the city. Its formality, friendliness, and level of religious observance is poignant and tangible in the posts and comments made there. Its content, kosher in presentation and respectful with its commentary, is quite similar to what happens at a kiddush on Shabbos afternoon. People make an effort to greet you, share ideas, and clearly support one another with communal devotion. Simchas Torah at the LinkedIn shul would have the highest bidders on all Kibbudim, not only because of its business clientele, but also because of its shared values for helping others succeed.
Instagram, on the other hand, would be the shopping center of this city. Every Jewish business you can imagine is there. Similar to how people go to restaurants as a place to meet friends and talk about important social and personal issues, many Jewish Instagram businesses and influencers are a space where you will find discussions and conversations about important ideas and relevant issues in the Jewish community. This shopping center would also be home to the offices of many important Jewish organizations, less conservative in nature, and diverse in its Jewish reach, from provocative irreligious ideas, to polarizing, highly strung commenters. Certainly a place to make new friends, and a fun shopping experience, exploding with dramatic virility.
Facebook and its ancient systems of organized and communal focused social tools, such as groups, would be the town hall, political, and educational center of this Jewish city. Not quite the religious space like LinkedIn, but more secular in nature, poised as a centralist, informative, authoritative, knowledgeable community full of well meaning individuals, who joined social media in the “Facebook era.” Its communal function is more parental, productive, informative, and sometimes very personal.
Twitter, at last, would be a Jewish comedy club, joined by a group of individuals that stays current with politics and worldly journalism. Home to the more international, global, and macro Jewish ideas, perhaps slightly disconnected from the individualistic community. Unorthodox in nature and edgy with its creative Judaic knock off handles, a spectrum of self-loving Jews find solace with tweet-worthy jokes around the religious and cultural systems of Judaism.
Tiktok is next ... And I'm not quite sure if there is a Jewish community out there, other than Miami Boys Choir ‘souvenirists’. I guess we'll have to see what's in store for us there.
I hope you enjoy this collection in our first edition and can’t wait to bring you our next collection of trending, viral, Jewish content from the online community. Remember: This “online community” is your community; it's your neighbors and friends, who post, share, and comment on these topics. Learn what's out there and join the conversation. Consider this magazine a conversation starter, at which I'm sure it will succeed.
Looking forward to hearing your feedback, on whatever platform you choose.
Enjoy!
